Weight is more than just a number. This one of the mottos of the campaign “World with Weighing”, an initiative from CECIP, the European Weighing Industry Association. And as its associate, Balanças Marques joins this campaign to show you why weighing matters after all.
When you think about scales, the first image that pops to mind is probably of that scale you have in your bathroom or that one that you use to weigh ingredients in your kitchen. And weighing is, in fact, important to all that. But not only. Because scales have other applications too. The use of these weighing instruments interferes in more aspects of your life than it may seem on a first look.
In a world without weighing, much of what you take for granted wouldn’t be possible. But in a “world with weighing”, scales and weighbridges help defend your rights as consumer, protect your interests and even infrastructures.

When you go to the supermarket or butchery, the scales may determine the value on your receipt. In those products whose price is calculated based on the weight, a reliable weighing is fundamental for you to pay exactly for the quantity you get. Which means weighing instruments are essential for fair trading.

Before arriving on the shelves of our stores, products you consume go through a whole process of development and quality control. Where it’s mandatory to use scales. Weighing makes sure each product has the right amount of ingredients to have the expected taste and/or the expected effects. Which means weighing equipment is fundamental to the quality of the products that come from the industries.

When leaving the factories, products still have a long way ahead of them to reach you. But before starting their journey, they pass by the scrutiny of weighing instruments.
