BALANÇAS MARQUES INITIATIVES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT - PART I
By the end of 2019, we had decided that the word “Sustainability” would guide us through the new year, at Balanças Marques. And now, already in 2020, in spite of the hard times we’re experiencing, we are still focused on our goal. We did not stop our efforts. We have maintained, within the possible, the initiatives we had planned in favour of the planet.
Even in pandemic times, we don’t want to stop innovating or thinking about the future. We want to continue working for a better tomorrow in our company and on the whole world. So, we went beyond the development of more ecological products and we didn’t content only on recycling and reducing the use of plastic bottles in our headquarters.
For the social responsibility we feel, for the community we are a part of, for the family we’ve built and for the planet we live in, on the last four months, we have:
- Started a new garden.
We are located on an industrial area, but that hasn’t stopped us from adding some shades of green to the landscape we can see through the window. Right by our headquaters, we’ve created “Espaço Marques”, a corner with several trees, where, pretty soon, we’ll have have picnic tables. Whenever the context allows it, we hope our employees and all the community will be able to enjoy some moments in fresh air on our little garden.
- Adopted a section of Este River.
In January, we joined “Projeto Rios” and we accepted to take care of a section of the river that crosses the area where Balanças Marques is located. From that moment on, we became (even more) responsible for the preservation of 500 meters of this river that is right in our doorstep. We’ll do our very best to take good care of it and maintain it on the ideal conditions all the time – counting with everyone’s help to do so with success.
- Shared sustainable tips with our employees.
Because, together, we have more impact on this fight for the preservation of the environment and for the sustainability of the planet, it’s important we all know how we can help and do our part. So, internally, we have been sharing some tips that may be useful to our employees – whether they are on our offices/factories or on their homes.
- Participated on Earth Hour.
We may be far from each other, but we’re always connected by the values that we share. So, on March 28th, between 8:30 and 9:30 pm, on our employees’ houses, the lights were shut down and candles were lit to take part on Earth Hour. An initiative of WWF, which, as symbolical as it might be, is full with a meaning we couldn’t overlook in 2020.
- Already planned a lot more for the rest of the year.
On our schedule, there are many activities and measure planned to make our year a time really committed to the theme of sustainability. Some were already postponed due to the pandemic, but we’re hopeful that soon enough it will be possible to make them come true and go back to our usual programming. Stay tuned!
