FAMILY DAY AT BALANÇAS MARQUES: THE WHOLE HISTORY
Family Day at Balanças Marques already has tradition status. And, for us, it’s one of the events of each year. Discover the whole history of this day!
Like every tradition no one knows exactly how this one started. But we know that its origins are on our employees.
How it started
Balanças Marques’ Family Day is the evolution of an event that they organized themselves. They used to choose a summer day and, at the end of the workday, got together with their families in a park for a picnic and a few hours of mingling among chats, laughs and traditional games.
“Those were amazing relaxing moments. We had the chance to get to know our colleagues and collect many stories to tell”, remembers Paulo Sousa, Grupo José Pimenta Marques’ employee since 2012.
So, it quickly turned into a tradition, carried out every year. And the administration started to participate and contribute with everything that is necessary for a barbecue, until it took over the organization in 2015.
How it’s going
In 2017, the year Balanças Marques completed 50 years of activity, the event was the big celebration of such a special achievement for us. The then gave it the name of “Family Day”.
The event changed, but it did not loose its essence. It kept being a unique chance for moments of relaxation and mingling.
For Andreia Ferreira, part of the Family since 2017, “the best moments in the company are on Family Day”. Because, on that occasion, “our team and union spirit is over the roof”, she explains.
Scheduled for May, now, it starts in the afternoon, during labour hours, usually with a talk focused on the employees’ Personal Development. Then, it’s followed by a few hours with many team building activities and a dinner – for which the families are also invited to.
“It’s a time to strengthen friendship bonds, to share experiences and chill chats, once time is not an issue”, David Vaz tells. “And it’s also the proof that Family can also be built”, concludes the employee that joined us in 2022.
Family Day at Balanças Marques is therefore one the traditions we value the most and one the events of our year. Because it’s a reflection of our values and of what we believe in: our Human Resources are our biggest asset.
